Chinese visit to Mandalay more than fourfold

Chinese tourist arrivals in Mandalay increased by more than four times in 2018, according to data from the regional department of hotels and tourism.

“It was because of the visa reduction. As many business opportunities open up, most Chinese tourists are increasingly interested in Myanmar, ”San Yu, assistant director of the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism in Mandalay Division, told The Irrawaddy.

Despite the sharp increase in Chinese tourists, the host country has lost much of its tourism revenue due to the tourism budget. Travelers say some Chinese tourists’ behavior is not in line with the rules.

Currently, Mandalay has expanded to four airlines this year, from four previously scheduled flights to Mandalay and China.
