Hundreds of young people have been allowed to leave after protests by Western powers and the United Nations called for the release of young protesters trapped in Sanchaung Township.

Activists say hundreds of young protesters surrounded by security forces were allowed to leave Rangoon on the night of March 8 after Western powers and the United Nations called for them to leave.

Thousands took to the streets in Rangoon in protest of the youths in Sanchaung Township, who are protesting daily, in defiance of the curfew.

In Sanchaung Township, police fired guns and detonated sound bombs, searching homes to search for non-residents in Sanchaung Township and punishing anyone who hid them.
